The Beginning

From an Idea to a Movement

Established in 2019, FOCUS KUSA (Follow One Course Until Success) was born from a simple yet powerful realization: students in Kinniya possessed immense potential but often lacked the proper guidance to navigate the transition into higher education.

A small group of university undergraduates decided to bridge this gap. What started as an effort to provide university admission guidance quickly blossomed into a fully-fledged organization dedicated to academic support, leadership development, and community service.

Today, FOCUS KUSA stands as a beacon of hope and guidance, uniting university students across the island to serve their hometown.

A chronological view of our major milestones and evolution as a student association.

2019

The Inception

FOCUS KUSA (Follow One Course Until Success – Kinniya University Students’ Association) was established in 2019 by university students from Kinniya with the vision of guiding, supporting, and uplifting students through education, mentorship, and community-driven initiatives. This marked the beginning of a platform dedicated to academic empowerment and student unity.

2020 – 2021

Building Through Challenges

During these early years, the association continued to strengthen its foundation and commitment to student service despite social and educational challenges. FOCUS KUSA remained focused on supporting students and preparing for broader educational initiatives that would later expand into larger community-based programs.

2022

Expanding Educational Reach

FOCUS KUSA began scaling up its academic service initiatives through structured educational projects. Its growing work included programs such as Path Finder, Mathematics Class Series, Zero W Project, Brilliant Brushes, and subject-focused seminar series, reflecting a stronger commitment to school-level academic support and community engagement.

2023

Launching Signature Programs

The year 2023 became a major turning point in the association’s development. FOCUS KUSA launched the first UniVision program on 17 September 2023 at Kinniya Central College Main Hall, bringing together over 200 A/L pass students for stream-wise university course guidance and direct interaction with undergraduates from state universities. This became the foundation of what has since grown into an annual flagship initiative.

In the same year, FOCUS KUSA also conducted Explore A/L 2023 on 18 June 2023 at Kinniya Central College Hall, helping nearly 200 O/L graduates understand A/L subject streams and make informed academic choices.

2024

Strengthening Impact & Establishing Traditions

In 2024, FOCUS KUSA expanded and strengthened its annual educational programs. UniVision 2024, held on 15 June 2024 at the Kinniya Public Library Hall, provided structured guidance on university applications, course prioritization, and stream-wise academic planning.

The association also conducted Explore A/L 2024 on 19 May 2024, continuing its stream-guidance mission for students transitioning from O/L to A/L studies.

Another major achievement in 2024 was Focus Stride 2024, a pilot A/L examination series for Science stream students across the Kinniya, Mutur, and Kantale Zones, held from 24 August to 16 September 2024. This initiative simulated the real A/L exam environment and helped students improve exam techniques, time management, and confidence.

2025 - Present

A Broader Vision for Community Impact

By 2025, FOCUS KUSA had grown into a more active and diverse student association with a stronger portfolio of academic, mentorship, and community service programs. Major initiatives included:

  • AGM 2025 (2 Feb): Milestone gathering to review a year of impact and transition to the leadership of the 2025 Board.
  • Fresher’s Welcome 2025 (22 Feb): Officially welcoming and recognizing 38 students from the Kinniya Zone who entered state universities.
  • Explore A/L 2025 (5 Apr): Expanded with broader stream coverage, expert sessions, and stronger career guidance at Abdul Majeed Hall.
  • University Registration 2025 (11 May): Free UGC online registration support for newly selected undergraduates in collaboration with ITDLH.
